Guljarilal Nanda (July 4, 1898 - January 15, 1998) was an Indian politician. He was born in Sialkot, Punjab, Pakistan. He became the Prime Minister of India after the death of the first Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Gulzari dedicated to the Congress Party, Lal Nanda became the caretaker Prime Minister in 1964 after the death of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru for the first time. After the death of Lal Bahadur Shastri for the second time, the caretaker became Prime Minister in 1966. His tenure remained confined to both times until the Congress Party elected his new leader.
Birth and family
Gulzari Lal Nanda was born on July 4, 1898 in Sialkot, now part of Western Pakistan. His father's name was Bulaki Ram Nanda and mother's name was Smt Ishwar Devi Nanda. Nanda's primary education was completed in Sialkot. After this he studied at Lahore's 'Forman Christian College' and 'Allahabad University'. Gulzari Lal Nanda earned a masters degree in arts and a bachelor's degree in law. His marriage was completed in 1916 at the age of 18 with Laxmi Devi. Two sons and one daughter were included in their family.
personal life
Gulzari Lal Nanda was a patriot. For this reason, they have contributed a lot to India's independence struggle. Narayana's life was devoted to the nation from the beginning. In 1921, he participated in Non-Cooperation Movement. Routes were rich in versatility. He provided his services as an interpreter of economics at the National College of Mumbai. He was also the Secretary of Labor Association in Ahmedabad's Textile Industry and spent a long time from 1922 to 1946 on this post. It was always aware of the problems of workers and kept trying to diagnose them. During the Satyagraha movement in 1932 and in 1942-1944, they had to go to jail even during the Quit India Movement.
political life
Nandaji remained MLA from Mumbai from 1937 to 1939 and from 1947 to 1950. During this, he saw the working of the Ministry of Labor and Housing remained in the Government of Mumbai. In 1947, the 'Indian National Trade Union Congress' was established and its credit goes to the dynasty. After being under the influence of Gulzari Lal Nanda during his stay in the Mumbai Government, the Congress high command summoned him to Delhi. It was Vice Chairman of Planning Commission of India in 1950-1951, 1952-1953 and 1960-1963. In such a way, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru received huge support from India's Five Year Plans. During this time, he assisted the Central Government in the following manner.
Gulzari Lal Nanda was the cabinet minister in the Union Cabinet and took charge of independent ministries. Nayant held the charge of the Planning Ministry since September 1951 to May 1952. The work of Planning Commission and river valley projects from May 1952 to June 1955. Nayhan saw the ministerial work of planning, irrigation and energy from April, 1957 to 1967. Nayant successfully saw the work of the Ministry of Labor and Employment from March 1963 to January 1964.
Caretaker Prime Minister
Nanda took charge of the caretaker Prime Minister twice as the seniormost ally in the cabinet His first tenure lasted from 27 May 1964 to 9 June 1964, when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru died. The second term lasted from 11 January 1966 to 24 January 1966, when Lal Bahadur Shastri died in Tashkand. Narayan was elected Lok Sabha member in the first five general elections.
Writing Assignment
Nanda played the role of a writer and composed many books. Those named as: Sam Aspects of Khadi, Approach to the Second Five Year Plan, Guru Tegbahadur, Saint and Sevier, History of Adjustment in the Ahmadabad Textiles, For a Moral Revolution and Even Basic Consideration.
Award
Gulzarilal Nanda was awarded the country's highest honor Bharat Ratna (1997) and Padma Vibhushan, the second best civilian honor.
Death
Nanda died long and in 100 years, he died on January 15, 1998. They will always be remembered as a Gandhian politician with a clean image.
