National Zoological Park

The National Zoological park, previously known as Delhi Zoo was a new endeavor of the government of India after the Independence. The Zoo was inaugurated on 1959 and was called Delhi Zoo, the main purpose of the zoo was to provide recreational facility for the people of Delhi.

It was in 1982 that the park was promoted to a national status and came to be known as The National Zoological Park. It spreads over an area of 170 acres. Which now provides a home for more than 1350 animals and birds of 130 species from around almost all parts of the world like Africa, Australia, America and Europe. Very near to the city, it is a surprise for most of the tourists and for them it is like an amazing storybook destination brought to life. You can watch your pictured fearful animals lively very close to you. The place includes a green house, 16 century citadel and a Mughal period Kos Minar. A tourist can visit the Zoo by foot or by hiring a van. Tourists are not allowed to take anything inside the compound except water. If you are an animal lover, no doubt, you can directly go to visit this Zoo and it will provide some wonderful moments in your life to cherish. Going to the right from the entrance you can watch the beauty of the Zoo, dancing squirrels not afraid of men will welcome you everywhere in the park. You can see animals including Chimpanzee, hippopotamus, spider monkeys, African wild buffalo, Giraffes, Girl lion, Zebras, wide variety of birds including some migratory and water birds, and in the center of the zoo is the underground reptile house. A visit to the zoo with its natural beauty and a vision of nature so close to you will surely take you to a different world, to the world of animals, birds, reptiles and trees.
