Mr. P. Ranga's son Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao was born on June 28, 1921 in Karimnagar. He did his studies from Osmania University of Hyderabad, University of Mumbai and University of Nagpur. Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao has three sons and five daughters.
Agriculture expert and advocate Shri Rao came from politics and took charge of some important departments. He was Minister of Law and Information in the Andhra Pradesh Government from 1962 to 64, Law and Law Minister from 1964 to 67, Minister of Health and Medicine in 1967 and Education Minister from 1968 to 1971. He was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 1971 to 73. He was the General Secretary of All India Congress Committee from 1975 to 76, President of Telugu Academy of Andhra Pradesh from 1968 to 74 and Vice President of South India Hindi Campaign House of Madras from 1972. He was a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, from 1977 to 1984, from 1957 to 1977 and was elected to the eighth Lok Sabha from Ramtek in December 1984. As chairman of the Public Accounting Committee in 1978-79, he participated in a conference held at South Asia organized by the Asian and African Studies School of the University of London. Shri Rao is also the President of the Andhra Center of Indian Vidya Bhawan. He was Minister of Defense from January 14, 1980 to July 18, 1984, Home Minister from July 19, 1984 to December 31, 1984 and Defense Minister from December 31, 1984 to September 25, 1985. He also took additional charge of the Planning Ministry from November 5, 1984. He took over as Human Resource Development Minister from September 25, 1985.
Mr. Rao was interested in music, cinema and playhouse. He had special interest in writing Indian philosophy and culture, fiction and political comment, learning languages, writing poems in Telugu and Hindi and literature. He successfully published the Telugu translation of the famous Marathi novel "Pan Takhtan Kone Ghetto" of late Shri Hari Narayan Apte published by Saharsran, the Hindi translation of the famous Telugu novel 'Wei Paggalu' of late Shri Vishwanath Satyanarayana and Central Sahitya Akademi 'Ambala Jivitam' Done He translated many major books from Marathi to Telugu and Telugu, and published many articles in various journals under a surname. He delivered lectures on political matters and related subjects in universities in the United States and West Germany. As External Affairs Minister he visited Britain, West Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Egypt in 1974.
During his tenure as Foreign Minister, Shri Rao successfully used his academic background and political and administrative experience in the field of international diplomacy. A few days after taking charge, he chaired the Third Conference of United Nations Industrial Development Organization in New Delhi in January 1980. He also chaired a G-77 meeting in New York in March 1980. In February 1981, Mr. Rao was highly praised for his role in the Foreign Ministers Conference of Non-External Countries. Mr. Rao had personally shown keen interest in international economic issues. Individually led the Indian delegation to the G-77 conference on ECDC in Caracas in May 1981.
1982 and 1983 were very important for India and its foreign policy. During the Gulf War, the 7th Convention of Non-Aligned Movement took place in India, which was presided by Smt. Indira Gandhi. In 1982, when India was asked to host it and in the following year when a meeting was held in New York in connection with the agitation between the heads of state and government of different countries, then Mr. P.V. Narsingh Rao had chaired meetings with foreign ministers of non-aligned countries in New Delhi and the United Nations.
Mr. Rao was also the leader of the Special Group Non-Aligned Movement who visited West Asian countries in November 1983 to resolve the Palestinian liberation movement. Shri Rao was actively involved with the Working Group formed by the meeting of Commonwealth Heads and Cyprus related matters of the New Delhi Government.
As the External Affairs Minister, Shri Narasimha Rao presided over India on behalf of various Joint Commissiones with countries like USA, USSR, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Vietnam, Tanzania and Guyana.
