How to achieve your goals

Goals That Help & Goals That Hinder

Short-term goals, long-term goals, decisions and choices. What to do?

Have your goals, and yes, write them down. The short-term goals should get you to your long-term goal, but keep your eye on the long-term goal, as if you were jumping hurdles. The long-term goal is the line to cross at the end, and the short-term goals are the hurdles. If you stop and look at each hurdle you're trying to cross, well, you know what will happen. So remember what the long-term goal is and don't let what goes on with the short-term goals stop your forward motion.

For instance, when you're changing the oil in your car ... no, sorry I'm going to have to use a pie-baking example. To bake a good apple pie you have to measure flour, sugar, butter, salt and pare and core apples, but you can be a bit off on your measurements at any point and still come out fine.

As to commitment and choice, you always have the right to change your mind. Your dreams and plans may change over your lifespan, as will your financial needs, and priorities, and sometimes even your values. Remember that life lives you as much as you live life. In pursuing one goal you may gain skills you decide you'd rather apply elsewhere, and you will still end up in a good place.

Work with a coach to get clarification for your specific situation. You want to be committed to your goals, but you also need to keep checking in on how you feel about what you're heading for, and use your emotional intelligence. That’s the difference between being determined, and being a fanatic. Know how to start but also know how to stop. Give yourself permission to make mistakes, so you'll be able to risk, and also to self-correct.

Use the win-stay, lose-shift philosophy. If you've got a winning strategy, stick with it. If you're losingScience Articles, shift. Your intuitions and your feelings will guide you when you're attuned to them. That's what they're there for.

Putting Your Goals within Your Grasp

When establishing your goals it is important to not set yourself up for failure. In order to achieve goals you have set for yourself they must be realistic and measurable goals. In fact the key to success in achieving goals is to possess the skills required and the ability to monitor your progress. It is therefore critical that any goal planning process takes this into consideration.

Let's look at 3 important elements that you will need to have in any goals you establish for yourself in order for you to successfully reach them.

Are Goals within Your Capabilities

As the saying goes don't build your castle in the sky. You need to possess the skills or other necessary resources to achieve goals you have set for yourself. Real goals are those that you have the potential of actually accomplishing.

It is great to have aspirations but be careful distinguishing between what are dreams and actual real goals you have set for yourself. They must be attainable for you to be able to realistically qualify them as goals. To set off in pursuit of any objectives outside the realm of your capabilities is an act of futility. Worse yet this futility may dissuade you from ever setting goals again.

Are Goals Measurable

It is best when establishing any type of goals or objectives to be able to monitor your progress. Having measurable goals allows you to see how far you have progressed and how much further you need to go to accomplish them. This also gives you a sense of direction and helps to keep you motivated.

Without having measurable goals would be much like playing a game of darts in a dark room and trying to hit the bull's-eye. Without any update or indication of your progress you would likely just give up and walk away due to frustration or lack of interest.

Short vs Long Term Goals

Long and short term goals involve two completely different mindsets in order for them to be reached successfully. Determination of this is necessary in the early stages for you to properly and effectively schedule your efforts. In addition your expectations of the time it will take are vital to avoid needless frustrations or anxieties that can easily sidetrack or derail your efforts.

With short term goals efforts are usually more concentrated and intense as opposed to goals that take longer to achieve. Knowing what to expect up front will make all your planning so much easier.

Your goals are obviously very important to you or you would not have set them in the first place. It is important however when doing any goal planning to consider if these objectives are a good fit for you. In achieving goals the key to success as we have already mentioned is establishing realistic and measurable goals. You need to possess the necessary talents and resources along with the ability to monitor your progress to successfully reach your objectives. In the end it is important that goals you set contain the 3 elements that we spoke of above in order for you to actually reach them.

Achieving Your Goals

Think of a time in your life when you achieved something you really wanted. Did you doubt it would happen and believe that you could not achieve it? Or did you have a solid sense of knowing that it would happen and doubt never entered into your mind?

It was the second wasn’t it?

When Richard Branson set up Virgin Airways, did he sit in his office and wonder if it would ever work? Did Bill Gates sit in his office wondering if anyone would want to buy his Windows product? They may have done for a little while, but they did not let these doubts rule them. They knew their plans would work and that they would be successful.

When working to achieve your goals, you need that unerring sense of confidence and lack of doubt in yourself. You must Know it is going to happen and that you will succeed. We are not talking about thinking you will succeed, believing you will succeed or knowing you will achieve your goal. They are all intellectual forms of Knowing, Knowing with a capital K; that solid feeling in the pit of your stomach that you will make happen and you cannot fail. Expect it to happen and know there is no other way. It will happen. This Knowing gives you drive and commitment to see you through to the success of your goal.

But how do you get this feeling? One of the best and most effective techniques is visualisation.

You currently use the power of visualisation, probably without even realising it. Have you ever run through what you are going to say to someone before you have the conversation? Or seen yourself in your mind giving a presentation before you give it?

That is the power of visualisation, and it is very potent. You can use it not only for your goals, but for any aspect of your life. Visualisation is something most people are unused to directing. You will find initially that your attention will wander, but you have to pull it back to the task at hand. It is similar to building a muscle up through exercise – it takes time to strengthen it.

The exercise for visualising your goals is very simple, and is as follows.

1) Select the goal that you wish to work with
2) Picture an image of this goal in your mind
3) Visualise yourself attaining your goal. Use all of your senses – touch, hearing, sight, smell, and taste. Really feel your success with every fibre of your being and Know that your goal is as good as achieved.
4) Hold this image in your mind for a minimum of 10 minutes – remain focus and positive. Challenge any doubts that rise and replace them with positive words and images of success. If you get distracted or your mind wanders, bring your focus back to your goal.

You can also hold this successful image in your mind as you go about your day to day business. Keep the image there and focus on your success. You get what you focus on – and if you focus on achieving your goal, then you will get it. Visualisation is a method of programming the subconscious mind for success.

With some goals you may want to keep them private. If you are trying to get fit and your friends know you have been less than energetic in the past when you tell them your goal, they will laugh and joke and not believe you. This doubt and disbelief can affect your belief in yourself and in your goal, which in turn can lead to failure to achieve the goal.

It is hard enough to overcome our own doubts and worries without having to also overcome those of the people around you. Keep any goals where you may be influenced by others to yourself and let the people around you see the successful end result.

Affirming Success

Another method for achieving your goals is to use affirmations, which means you repeat your goal again and again to yourself. This is another method of programming your subconscious mind, which is the source of all action.

An affirmation is a sentence or two that is written in a positive language with definite targets and timescales. A bad affirmation would be “I want to lose some weight.” Your subconscious looks at this and since there is no timescale it will not leap into action. There is also no definite target so your subconscious does not know what to aim for. How is “some weight” defined? It is 10 pounds, but also 1 pound and also just 1 ounce.

A good affirmation is “I want to lose 10 pounds by the end of this year.” This sends the right messages to your subconscious. It knows that you exactly how much you have to lose (10 pounds) and when this must be done by (the end of this year). You know precisely what you have to do and when it has to be done by.

If the goal is to lose 10 pounds by the end of the year, we need an action plan to get us to this goal and to make it happen. In this case the action plan may be to reduce our chocolate intake and increase the amount of fruits and vegetables we consume. The action plan is made up of a series of milestones. For example, if there are 5 months until the end of the year then our milestones would be to lose 2 pounds each month.

Little Steps

You may have a big goal such as “To have an income in excess of £100,000 a year by the time I am 35” (notice the goal is specific in both the timescale and the amount and does not put an upper limit on your earning potential.)

This goal can be very daunting to look at, perhaps even enough for you to give up and not strive to achieve it. To overcome this, you break your goal down into a number of smaller, more manageable steps.

Any large goal can be broken down into a number of sub-goals, which can then be broken down even further if necessary. Each of the sub-goals has an associated action plan with it. Using our income goal from above, sub-goals could be to understand taxation, to understand investment, to start your own company, and so on.

Smaller goals are easier for you to handle, and help you to stay on course to your main goal. You also get the satisfaction of regularly having successes and achieving goals, which does wonders for your belief in yourself.

All of your major goals and their associated sub-goals and action plans need to be regularly reviewed – ideally daily. This ensures you remain focussed on your goals and instantly know if you start to drift away from your target. It allows you to adjust your goals and action plan according to whether things are working quicker or slower than planned. It also prevents you from repeating actions and carrying out tasks that are not necessary. It keeps the goals in the forefront of your mind, and does not allow you to forget about them.

Achieving our goals is something we all want to do, but it involves work. Rarely will they be given to us on a silver platter by a servant on bended knee. Achievement requires Knowing, drive and commitment, combined with careful and meticulous planning and a firm belief in ourselves. With unwavering belief and commitment there is nothing that you cannot achieve. Everything and anything is within your grasp – if you are willing to make the commitment to achieving it.

Setting Goals in Tune with Your Desires

A lot of people try “affirmations”, “creative visualisations”, techniques such as the Law of Attraction and other methods outlined in "The Secret", or other ways to achieve their goals. They do this for a while, sometimes for a long while, but find nothing appears to be happening. They are no nearer their goals than when they first started. What is going wrong?

Does this strike a chord at all? Have you found yourself in this position? I know I have! But not because there is anything intrinsically wrong with those systems. They have certainly worked for many people. So why didn’t they work for me when I first tried them?

Continuing the musical metaphor, I believe the biggest cause of failure is that our goals are simply not properly in tune with our real underlying desires. And until they ARE in tune I can pretty much guarantee they CANNOT work.

The first task, therefore, of anyone attempting any kind of self-improvement or success programme should be to isolate all of those underlying desires.

The second task is to check that each of those desires are in harmony, and work on “retuning” any that create a discord.

And finally, once we are certain all our desires are congruent, we can then check that our goals are also congruent with these “tuned up” desires. At this point we will find those personal development and success systems really start to work.

Enough of the metaphors! What exactly am I talking about?

Let me give you a simple example.

Imagine a young man who has decided he wants to find his perfect “mate”. He has bought a system that claims it will teach the user to seduce any young lady he fancies. She will be swooning over him before she even realises what is happening (yes, there really are such systems for sale out there, although I have never bought one or recommended one to any of my subscribers). He is delighted with his purchase and immediately begins putting the system into practice. It doesn’t work.

Why? Was the system itself wrong? No, in fact there was nothing technically wrong with the system. I suggest there WAS something morally wrong, but technically it should have worked.

The reason it didn’t work is that this particular young man is not as lacking in morals as you might have imagined at the outset of my story. Deep down inside he respects all people as individuals. He has an underlying desire to love and respect everyone, and to be loved and respected by them. This desire is quite out of harmony with his superficial desire to “seduce” any young lady he fancies. He does not recognise this conflict, as he has interpreted his desire to be loved in the wrong way, and believes it will be satisfied by applying this “seduction” technique. But his very powerful unconscious mind does recognise the conflict, and refuses to allow him to achieve that goal which is not properly aligned with his real underlying desire. Every time he makes an affirmation that is out of line with that true desire, his unconscious mind throws a counter affirmation into the equation, which completely neutralises it.

Now the example I have just given was perhaps rather an extreme example, and one which is easy to recognise and to fix. This young man should recognise that his goal of seducing a young lady is simply not appropriate for him, and throw away the system he bought. That system would only work for him if he were not, underneath, the moral person he really is.

Most of us, of course, are not trying to use our success and personal development systems for such an obviously inappropriate purpose. But still the reason they are not working for us is almost certainly that we have not yet fully understood our inner desires and made sure our goals are properly aligned with them. Until we do, every time we “affirm” or “creatively visualise” we will be fighting with our own unconscious mind. And believe me, in a battle between the conscious and unconscious mind the unconscious always wins.

So take some time now to analyse exactly what it is you want out of life. Meditate on each of the desires or goals you have identified – do you really want thisBusiness Management Articles, or is it just a passing fancy (or something someone else wanted for you). Make sure they are all aligned and none are out of kilter. Eliminate those that create a discord – you will not find it too difficult to recognise them once you get into the habit of this practice. If you take the time to do this I can guarantee you will at the very least be happier. I cannot guarantee whatever success or personal development system you are using will then work – apart from anything else this will depend on the quality of that system itself. But you will certainly be much better positioned to get better results from any systems you apply.

Achieving Goals is a 5 Step Process

Achieving goals is much more a process then it is an event. This is likely why many goals go unaccomplished. Often people in an initial burst of enthusiasm set goals but eventually their drive dies out due to a lack of motivation. The end results of course are the failure to reach goals that have been set. Goals and objectives should not be regarded as an impulse but more of a well planned out series of pre-defined actions that focus on achieving a particular result.

Establishing business goals for instance is necessary to better coordinate the efforts required to reach the desired objectives. Since these type goals are rooted in profits and income we tend to take them more seriously thus the plan of action is usually carried out more precisely. But in almost every case setting goals will require developing a plan of action that will take time and effort to successfully implement and complete. Your willing participation and resolve will be needed in this process for you to actually reach goals you have set.

Let's look at the 5 step process that comprises the establishment and pursuit of any goals and objectives that you may target either professionally or personally.

Planning

This is the initial phase where you determine what your personal or business goals are to be. Consideration should be given to how realistic these goals are. Unrealistic goals will only lead to wasted time and effort not to mention the discouragement and frustration you will experience.

Time

Many goals and objectives that you may target can not be accomplished in one day. They will require an investment of your continual diligence and patience over an extended period of time. These are typically referred to as long term goals

Commitment

Most long term goals will demand a certain commitment on your part in order for them to be successfully achieved. This commitment normally targets maintaining a consistent effort towards achieving any goal you may have set out to accomplish.

Sacrifice

The efforts you are investing to accomplish your objectives may sometimes come in conflict with other interests of yours. Avoiding the temptation to pursue these other interests will result in your voluntarily sacrificing this time to devote to pursuing the goals you have set.

Perseverance

Set backs or disappointments will occur when your plans or efforts do not always yield the intended results you seek. It is at times like this that your resolve and motivation will be tested. How you react to these situations will be a good measure as to whether you will succeed in reaching your intended objectives.

Achieving goals is an accomplishment that usually results after participating in a series of pre-planned actions carried out over a period of time. Setting goals is actually not that difficult it is the commitment to the process that offers the biggest challenge. It is also important you set goals that you have a deep desire to reach. If you do not possess the necessary desire your lack of motivation will eventually overcome your willingness to put forth any more effort. In the end you have wasted time and possibly resources. It is also important to realize setting and accomplishing goals is less an impulse and more a process as we discussed here. This realization should help prepare you to better select and commit to any goals you may set for yourself or your business in the future.

Be Goals, Do Goals

Are you a finisher? Do you love the feel of completing a task and checking it off your list? Goal completion is a strong human motivator. Yet, writing significant goals that have a positive impact on the work environment can be tough. Here's a framework to consider the next time you begin to draft goals.

Goals fall into two categories: "be" goals and "do" goals.

"Be" goals are goals that define an expectation for how the employee is to act. Goals that describe how we want the employee to "be" are behavioral. Examples of "be" goals include:

· Provide helpful customer service to each citizen who comes to the counter.

· Arrive to work by 8:00 a.m. each morning.

· Wear your personal protective equipment at all times on the jobsite.

Because "be" goals describe how you want the person to behave, they are on-going and often very difficult to measure. When you describe how you expect an employee to perform the work the outcome is often a general description of your expectations. "Be" goals are usually expressed in your policies, procedures, and other documentation. Generally "be" goals apply to anyone in the job, rather than to a specific individual. As a result, they are usually not very exciting.

Instead of developing "be" goals, focus on writing "do" goals. "Do" goals define specific outcomes and are easily measured. "Do" goals are observable and establish a clear path for the employee to follow. Examples of "do" goals are:

· Conduct all required preventive maintenance activities on the ABC pump each month and document the completion of the work in the monthly log.

· Research available electronic payment systems and write a report on your findings, including recommendations for moving forward by April 30.

· Write a procedure manual for the establishment of new clients and present it to the team for approval by August 15.

While "be" goals can be developed as specific, measurable, and time-focused, they are often so general that they do not challenge the employee to complete something tangible. To more fully motivate employees with your goal-setting process, focus on drafting "do" goals that challenge them to produce a concrete result.

When goals are developed with employee input and sufficiently challenge the employee to produce something "realFree Reprint Articles," the goals have done their job.

Ten Ways To Ensure Your Goals Are Leading You To Success

Success, energy, passion and commitment are created by success - success at accomplishing the goals we have set for ourselves, and the goals that others have set for or with us. Nothing is more powerful than accomplishment.

Many of us never seem to complete all the goals and tasks we set for ourselves on a daily and weekly and monthly basis. We tend to focus on what we didn't do, rather than on all the things that got done. The effect of overbooking ourselves is that we probably get more done, but the price of never meeting all of our own commitments can be very high.

The price is high if the effect of constantly falling short of our own goals and expectations results in self criticism and a feeling that we don't measure up. And the result is less energy, less commitment, less goal setting. And we did it to ourselves.

It's a balancing act between - on the one hand, stretching and keeping a high level of energy and commitment and confidence in ourselves and - on the other hand, getting discouraged because of our own self imposed failures.

That's why the goal formula - SMART - is so important in setting goals. SMART, it stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time specific, helps us protect against the burnout and discouragement of setting goals that are beyond stretch - that are out there with dreams and ideals - nice to think about but no help when it comes to accomplishment - today.

Here are ten ways you can ensure that your goals are leading to your success, and not to your discouragement:

1 - If you constantly end the day with a sense of frustration because you didn't meet all your goals and plans for that day - and celebration of what was accomplished is pushed aside by frustration - it's time you changed your thinking. And working harder isn't the answer.

2 - Few goals, no more than three to five, are better than many. Having many goals is often the result of confusing intention with action. Many goals can be a sign of not wanting to make the hard choices required by priorities.

3 - If you use a daily task/goal list, after completing it, take the least important third of the items and put them in the trash. Stop overbooking and when you do get all the things done you committed to do, treat a "fun to do" as a reward for a day well done.

4 - Create short term goals that represent progress and then focus on it. The problem with the big, long term goals is that they are so far away that progress is hard to sustain. Example. If you want to do 12 pullups as a goal, and right now you can't do one, perhaps a short term goal of one will set you on the way to 12.

5 - Treat your goals as mileposts on a journey, rather than a destination. Every step can be celebrated; every step gets you closer to your dream; but celebrate the journey to keep commitment and energy positive.

6 - Don't be reluctant to modify your goals when your instincts and actions tell you that that is a wise thing to do. Remember, insanity is continuing to do the same things and expecting a different outcome. That's true with goals. Maybe the goal of pushing for 15 sales calls in a day is less important - and attainable - than 5 quality interviews in a day. Realize it's the results that count.

7 - Give yourself, and others, credit and recognition for small victories. You know, the call you made that you had been dreading; the presentation that your team gave even though they dreaded having to give it; the analysis that wasn't good news, but had to be reported; the irate customer that was helped. Others may not know the price you paid to do those things, but you know it. Give yourself a pat on the back for courage and commitment.

8 - Be flexible. In a perfect world we may have control of our time and how it is spent. In the real world, stuff happens. Deal with it - don't see "stuff " as an imposition, just do it. Then get back on track, even if the track has taken a sudden right turn.

9 - Realize that you are probably your own harshest critic. That's good - that's bad. Use your self criticism constructively - that's good. Hand wringing and regret for things not done is bad - real bad. And while I'm not a student of the brain, have you ever noticed how we tend to soak up the things that didn't go right much easier than we reward and recognize ourselves for the good stuff?

10 - Keep an Accomplishment Log or Journal. Every day write down what you accomplished and feel good about it.

Goals guide us and help us succeed - and help us know what success is. Keep them positive and reinforcing and SMARTFeature Articles, and watch your own success grow.

How to Set Your Own Goals

Ninety-seven percent of the population does not set goals for two three reasons: (1) Fear is preventing them from doing so and (2) There is a risk that the goal may not be reached (3) They don't know how to set their own goals.

The most important part of goal setting is knowing what you want the most in life. The most critical part will be to achieve them and layout a plan to accomplish your dreams.

Today you have 2 choices in front of you; either you decide to set your own goals and the journey will start, or you decide not to and you will soon realize that you have not achieved what you wanted.

I know it may sound somewhat ridiculous to set your own goals and a plan of action to achieve them but as time flies by you will soon realize that I WAS RIGHT.

Here is why: How can you possibly achieve something in life if you do not have a clear plan, a road map, a detail plan of action that tells you everything about achieving your goals? How can you possibly envision your future without a clear definition of how to achieve your dreams?

Goal setting is a standard technique used by top level athletes, and successful business people all around the world. Remember, you will not pay a price for setting goals. You will pay a price for not setting them. You can choose to get caught up in the everyday activity of your life without feeling a real sense of purpose in life or you can choose to accomplish something meaningful with your life.

First you have to write down your goals and second you have to lay out your plan of actions that will determine how to you reach them. Once you have set your long-term goals, set up your short-term goals that you should complete if you are to reach your lifetime plan. You can set a 5 year plan, 1 year plan, 6 month plan, and 1 month plan of progressively smaller goals that you should reach to achieve your lifetime goals. Each of these should be based on the previous plan. Finally set a daily to do list of things that you should do today to work towards your lifetime goals.

Once you have decided your first set of plans, keep the process going by reviewing and updating your to-do list on a daily and weekly basis. Periodically review your plans, results and modify them to reflect your changing priorities, experience and accomplishments.

Be precise in setting your goals: Set precise goals, put dates, and amounts so that they are real. If you do this, you will know exactly how and when to achieve your personal goals. Have a vision that you know is unquestionably right and you will be internally driven to achieve that vision. A goal is "reasonable" when you can see the entire process needed to get to its attainment.

Write goals down: This is extremely important to if you wish to accomplish them. Goals are personals and should be shared with people that are close to you. This will give you more sense to what you do. Start mapping out your goals and review them regularly.

Set realistic goals: It is important to set goals that you can achieve if not you will give up on the idea that setting goals is the most important technique to help you achieve your dreams.

List the obstacles to overcome in accomplishing your goals.

Identify the individuals and groups you need to work with to reach your goals.

List the skills and knowledge required to reach your goal. What do you need to know?

Develop a plan of action to reach your goals.

Write down the benefits of achieving your goals. What will you get in compensation? (Monetary, freedom, more vacations, retire early, etc.)

Example of goal setting:

If you wish to make $1 million over the next 12 months, you will need to make sure first it's a realistic goal and second you need to know how to get there.

Let's assume that you product is worth $250 then it means that you need to make 4,000 sales in one year. That translate to about 333 sales per month, or 77 sales per week or 11 sales per day.

Now you will need to carefully study how many prospects you need to talk to in order for you to close 11 sales per day. You will also need to know how much advertising budget you need to spend to get so many calls per day.

If you need to talk to 100 prospects to close 10, 11 deals then your closing ratio is 10%. It also means that you need to talk to 100 people per day. Will it be cold calling or will it be generated through various advertising medium.

At the end of each day or each week you should review where you at with your goals and adjust appropriately if you do not achieve the result expected. Above I just outlined a goal but yours will have to be a lot more detailed in the execution. Just don't think that it should be as simple as I wrote down above. You need to clearly define your goals as well as the road to get there. It should be very detailed and not written down in 5 to 10 sentences. the more detailed the more serious you are and the more chances you have to accomplish your dreams.

Developing Your Marketing Plan & Sales Goals:

. Who are your customers?
. What do they buy?
. How much do they spend?
. How often do they buy?
. Where are they located? (Geography)
. Do you have a referral program in place?
. Do you have an incentive program in place?

How To Get Motivation To Achieve Your Goals?

Finding motivation to achieve your goals could be the bridge that link towards its realization. Most of us have goals that we aspire to reach. It enables you to strive harder and do better in what you are currently doing, whether at home, school, or work. And when faced with obstacles, some people readily admit defeat and give up on their goals. Motivation is what keeps you from quitting and overcoming hurdles to keep your eye on the goal.

What is Motivation?

Goals are as diverse as people's personalities are. Goals can either be simple or complex such as a job promotion, vacation to a foreign country, buying a new car, or acquiring a scholarship. The same also goes with people's motivational needs. Hence, aiming towards your goals is no good without enough motivation that serves as your driving force to realizing them.

Despite constant planning and efforts to moving forward in your goal, failures or unexpected results could happen. Without enough motivation, you could easily give up. Therefore, motivation plays a crucial role in the process. Aside from focusing on the goal itself, think about what there is to you once you have achieved the goal. Is it personal achievement or rewards that you aim to reach? Then, you can devise ways to address your motivational needs.

How to Stay Motivated?

Here are ways to motivate yourself towards achieving your goals:

1.Think of the past and future. This might seem confusing to others but you need to balance between your past achievements and what you intend to achieve in the future. Reminding yourself of previous accomplishments will give you the boost you need to double your efforts. After all, you have done it before and there is no way you cannot accomplish it this time.

2.Break it down to smaller goals. When you have one major goal, better break them down into smaller and more accessible goals. Then, these smaller goals will serve as steps you take until you reach that major goal.

3.Change perspectives. Whatever successes or failures you've encountered in the past, take lessons from out of it and motivate yourself to do better each time. Then, you would be able to focus on whatever it takes to get to your desired goal. If you find something isn't working in your efforts toward the goal, evaluate and change them if necessary.

4.Share your goals to others. Letting others know about your goal works two-ways: it gives you that extra push to work on your goal and you can be assured that there are people that are willing to remind you in case you lose track of your goals.

Increasing Motivation

The best way to start with increasing your motivation is making a personal change. You will be amazed at how much power your mind holds over what you can do. To start that change, ask yourself a series of questions:

-What is my goal?

-What do I need to achieve it?

-What am I looking to achieve by realizing this goal?

These are just basic questions and you can add up the list if you want. The way you speak or act, and your priorities reflect your belief system. HenceBusiness Management Articles, by reprogramming your belief system in such a way that it will facilitate towards working on your goal will make you more effective and motivated.

Finding the right motivation to achieve your goals might be that one thing that stands between its realization.

How Prepared Are You to Achieve Your Goal?

Each day, and sometimes several times each day, I make goals and I hear others make goals. We tend to think about what we want to do, what we want to achieve and accomplish and often we express our intention to others.

Making plans to achieve things... is part of human nature. An interesting question, however, is: "How much do you really want to achieve your goals?"

Setting goals is one thing... achieving them is quite another.

How often have you been totally determined when you have set your goal? Whether it be to lose weight, to start writing your book, to find another job, to give up smoking, take up golf lessons, go on that holiday you've been threatening to go on...

How often is your determination to achieve your goal incredibly powerful at the beginning... you start all fired up raring to go... and for a couple of days you are on target! Great!

Then... life around you happens. Things take you away from your goal... distractions and temptations get in your way... negative self talk starts dominating your thinking... doubt about your ability to actually achieve this goal reigns supreme...

And then you make all kinds of excuses e.g. "I haven't got enough money to do that", "I've got all these bills", "someone just made me a chocolate cake and it would be rude to refuse it", "I'm stressed so I can't focus on my goal right now"... excuse, after excuse! They might be illegitimate... (I'll let you into a little secret: we always can justify our excuses for not following through with something!!!)

And you return to your life the way it was before you decided to achieve this goal.

Does this happen to you on a regular basis? Sometimes it does to me... and it isn't very pleasant!

What I need to ask myself, and so do you, when you are setting goals is "How serious am I? How much do I really, truly want this goal?"

In other words... if you are truly honest with yourself... are you really serious about achieving this goal? Would you go to any ends... which may mean not eating that chocolate cake, it may mean throwing out a full packet of cigarettes, spending less time watching TV and more time doing exercise, getting a second job... to achieve your goal.

Would you be focused and determined enough not to bring out excuses? Not to give in to temptation? Would you be focused and determined enough to quieten your negative self talk? To positively affirm that yes you can and will achieve this?

In all seriousness, when you want to achieve a goal, it often requires sacrifice, persistence, determination, and courage to stick with it until the goal is achieved.

And that can be difficult at times!

Are you prepared to be focused... and are you prepared to achieve your goal...NO MATTER WHAT!!???

If not, that's ok... it is only wishful thinking that you would like to achieve your goal rather than it being a must in your life. And that's completely fine... your life will remain the same as it was. No change. Is that what you want?
